Nothing gives me more joy than when my readers ask me about my life and my blog. From the serious to silly, y’all always surprise me with what you want to know! Here are few of the most frequently asked questions I get:

What platform do you use to host your blog?
I have used WordPress since I started my blog in 2010.

Why are all of your post titles song lyrics?
I have always been a music fanatic and I particularly pay attention to the lyrics of songs. From the super sad to the cheery and happy…I love finding a song which lyrics perfectly pertain to a certain time/experience in my life. I use song lyrics I love to title my posts as a way to combine my two favorite things: fashion and music!

What magazines did you work at in New York City?
My first magazine job was at Women’s Health as the Publisher’s Assistant. After that I worked in the fashion department at CosmoGIRL, J-14 and People StyleWatch.

Why did you decide to start Poor Little It Girl™?
I’ve always had a passion for Under $100 shopping. Working at CosmoGIRL, J-14 and People StyleWatch, I learned a lot about the “mall brands” and how to find quality pieces that don’t cost a lot of money. I finally started Poor Little It Girl in July 2010 as an outlet to express my personal views on affordable style.

When you do decide to spend over $100 on an item, what is your biggest splurge?
When I do dive a little deeper into my wallet on an item, it usually revolves around denim. Whether it’s a great jacket or the perfect pair of jeans, I want something that will last forever and not stretch out a ton throughout the day…so that usually means having to spend a bit more on the good stuff. And now that I’m living back up north(-ish) again in Washington, DC, a great coat is also worth the splurge!

What is your advice to someone who wants to start a blog?
In the two years I’ve been blogging, there are a lot of things I’ve learned along the way. Here are a few of the most important tips I can give: 1) Post often – People need to know that they can get new content when they come to your blog each day. I post 4-5 days a week consistently. 2) If someone can do it better than you, let them – In no way can I claim I do everything alone for Poor Little It Girl, I have an amazing support team that helps me get my crap together. I have a web designer and business advisor that continue to help me grow and expand my brand. If you want your readers and people in the industry to take your seriously, then it’s important to invest in making it the best possible blog you can by having a great team. 3) Have fun – At the end of the day I blog because I love it and it makes me happy.  Don’t take it so seriously. If you hate a post, delete it. If you made a mistake, learn from it and move on. It’s not that deep.

Where did you go to college and what did you study?
I graduated from Florida State University in 2007 with a degree in Fashion Merchandising and Business. I was also a proud member of the Gamma Chapter of Chi Omega fraternity.

Besides fashion, what else do you do for fun?
I love fashion and style, but it is in no way my entire life. I love to cook (i.e watch Food Network/Cooking Channel), cheer on my Seminoles during football season, attend local festivals (specifically ones that revolve around beer and food), read the latest girly novels as well as take yoga and spin classes.

Can I set you up with my brother?
While I am flattered by the fact that you think me and your brother would hit it off, unfortunately, I’ll have to decline your request to set up a blind date.

What do you hope to do with Poor Little It Girl™ in the future?
I aspire to write a style book/memoir. I also want to become a contributor to TV/magazines where I discuss my tips and tricks on shopping for quality pieces on a budget. Basically I want Poor Little It Girl™ to become a household name, a brand for young women to identify with and learn from for fashion and life.

Can you contact you directly with a comment or question?
Of course! Feel free to email me (Cathy) your Poor Little It Girl at poorlittleitgirl@gmail.com any time. I’ll respond back as quickly as I can!
