I remember it like it was yesterday. It was fall 2004 and I was heading into my Chapter at Chi Omega. We had to dress up, so I decided to rock these super cool cotton jersey gaucho pants I just picked up at Express the day before…with a crop top that showed my stomach. Yes, this is how we “dressed up” back in the day. All my sisters were like “Hey! Where’d you get those cool pants?!” and I happily answered about my awesome find at the mall. Not a week later, I swear all of Tallahassee, FL was wearing gaucho pants. It took all of 6 months before those pants became incredibly uncool, and I never wore them again. Fast forward 11 years, and culottes (the fancy new hip way to say gaucho) are all the rage. I was hesitant to revisit this trend from the past, but y’all, I caved and love them all over again! I think the trick is to pick a luxe material that’s lightweight with movement and pair it with a shorter, almost crop top to balance out the look. These feel more like a great midi skirt (which we know I love) rather than wide leg crops, and are totally dressy enough to wear to any dinner or work meeting nowadays.
I’ve talked before about the pressures of being a style blogger. To the non-blogger, I know it can sound pretty snotty to say “oh boohoo I don’t own anything new to wear today!” but when your blog is your job, and people come to your site every day to see something new and fresh, the stress can be a lot, specifically on your bank account. Taking my own advice, I decided to say “to hell with that!” and went with an old favorite red dress to share with y’all. I’ve had this Madewell dress at least 4 years, but for some reason it’s never made its way on to my blog. (Or maybe it has? I honestly don’t remember.) So I dug it out from the back of my closet and decided to take it for another spin. Add on my new obsession (the best denim jacket ever) and this old look felt totally new again.
