Atlanta Apartment Tour - Poor Little It Girl

People ask all the time, “Why did you and Adam move from DC to Atlanta?” And really, there’s no one particular reason. We wanted cheaper rent and to live in a city where real estate pricing wasn’t as ridiculous at Washington DC. We also wanted to be closer to family and friends. Plus, both working from home, our little 700 square foot apartment wasn’t cutting it…we needed more space so we didn’t kill each other. So now, fast forward, we’ve been living in Atlanta for almost eight months (crazy) and y’all, I love it. From the food to all the activities (to the addition of our newest family member) I’m hooked on the southern life again.

But you know what? Moving is expensive! Like, no joke. All the crap you have to buy each time you move (outside of boxes and tape for all your things), we’re still paying off credit card bills from all those costs. So once we were finally settled in, we knew we had to keep our decor shopping as affordable as possible. So thankfully, we now take a short drive to IKEA and Target to pick up the essentials. We also went to online hot spots like Wayfair who was able to gift us a few things too for the space. All in all, I love our little home and how things have turned out. Of course, there’s always more things to buy/we need. But for now, we’re happy with our new city and loving our new home.

And if you want to see more of our kitchen, be sure to check out this post I did back in August right when we moved in!

Wow! Your space looks amazing! So airy and inviting.. DC area is so expensive. I live in Columbia, MD with my hubs and the rent is ridiculous! And we’re not even in the city! I’m also super envious that you have plenty of hardwood flooring. My apartment is mostly carpeted. Womp, womp. haha

Thank you so much! Yes, DC was way too expensive for what we got…not worth it since we both can work from home. So happy with our new apartment and can’t wait to buy an even bigger space for a house one day! xoxo Cathy

Yeaaaaaah for the new puppy! I want a dog so badly but it is hard enough getting people to check on my cats when I am out of town. I love the minimalist appearance of your coffee table. Mine is constantly covered with junk no matter how often I clean it.

I like to keep things pretty minimal on the table. Adam and I like to eat dinner on there and watch Jeopardy (we’re old, lol!) so I like to keep it clean! xoxo Cathy

I love that couch, it’s the perfect sectional for an apartment! Where did you get that?

I’m going to be moving to Atlanta in the next couple months. Any possibility you could share details on this complex or nice and affordable ones you would recommend in the area? Thanks in advance!!

Hi Katie! I don’t like to share on here exactly where I live, But I will say that we looked at over 12 different apartment complexes in the city before deciding on this one! It’s more about finding the area you want to live in and then your budget and going from there. There’s lots of great places around here! xoxo Cathy

Love your new place, I live in Atlanta also. I love finding great pieces that are inexpensive, Home Goods is a great place to get unique pieces, and the prices are very affordable. This is the first time I’ve heard about your site. It’s fabulous I can’t wait to see more!

I just left Atlanta for family and I lived in Buckhead. It is sooo great. Check out SSam Burger, DAS BBQ, Shake Shack, Yeah! burger, Malaysia…do I even have space to list everything?

I miss it and am coming home for Mother’s Day. Your place looks so cute!

So the way to affordably decorate a home is to have items gifted from companies? Not the most helpful or inspirational post…

Wow, thanks Tara. As a blogger yourself I’d assume that you’d know that leaving nasty/passive aggressive comments like this are not not only insanely rude, but totally unnecessary. Must be sad to feel that you need to say such things on someone else’s site to make yourself feel better about your own blog. God Bless.

Thank you so much for keeping it real. We just moved from the city to the suburbs of Washington, D.C. for more space. We still need to purchase plenty of furniture and decor to fill up our house. I don’t follow any other bloggers who share budget-friendly tips or when they purchase items from IKEA, Target, etc. But I plan to decorate the rest of our house on a budget, especially since we’re expecting our first child. Thank you for this really helpful post!

Would you tell me what color the walls are in the family room (with the couch)? I had autumn colors, which are so easy to choose. I’ve attempted to change to lighter colors and am finding color choices to be impossible – so many shades of lighter colors. Thank you.
